Maserati was born in Bologna Italy 1914.
Maserati's headquarters are in Modena, Italy, and is owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Maserati was started by the Maserati Brothers in late 1914. The brothers names were Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, and Ernesto. They had been very involved in cars, so much that they had built 2-litre Grand Prix cars for Diatto. The first Maserati cars that weren't owned by Diatto, won the 1926 Targa Florio, were driven by Alfieri. Maserati mad race cars with all the many different numbers of cylinders, such as 4, 6, 8, and 16.
Maserati's logo is a trident based on the Fountain of Neptune in one of Bologna's main plazas. They chose the trident because one of the Maserati brothers had used it in 1920 for the suggestion of a family friend who's name was Marquis Diego de Sterlich. To the brothers the logo seemed good for their race car company because Neptune represents strength and vigor, and also because it would be a taste of their home city or the birthplace of Maserati. Sadly Alfieri Maserati died in 1932, but the rest of the brothers, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, and Ernesto, kept up the car company that won races going as long as they could before they died out also.
Meanwhile the oil crisis put them in a bad position. The high demand for gas guzzling sports cars grew very small very fast. All of the main Italian GT companies were hurt, meaning that they weren't making enough money to pay the workers what they should, so they had to shrink their staff.
Maserati is now known as a "Luxury Vehicles Company", and their models include the Ghibli, the Levante, the Quattroporte, the GranTourismo, and the GT Convertible.
